What a great way to go out on top. After officiating in the NFL for two decades, Bill Carollo's final NFL assignment was for the AFC championship game, between Pittsburgh and Baltimore. I believe this was his eighth conference championship game (in addition to two Super Bowls). Congratulations, Mr. Carollo, and I wish you nothing but the best as you move on to become Director of Officiating for the Big Ten Conference.

The NFL is losing a very good official. Hopefully his replacement will be as good a White Hat as Bill has been.

I remember Bill Carollo saying that he came into the league around the same time Ed Hochuli did. He said for some reason his BODY never changed. :P

I heard someone say his replacement would be Craig Wrolstad. Could someone confirm/deny/offer other options?

Clete Blakeman could also take his place, CLete was a White Hat in the Big12 working the Championship game his final season and as Jon Bible's backup for the National Championship game between LSU and Ohio State.

Is there a specific date when Mr. Carollo's replacement is announced?

Interesting that his last word over the microphone, to my knowledge, was "incomplete" (after reviewing a pass); the NFL will certainly be that without him, although hopefully his replacement can follow his legacy.

Any update as to whether a new referee has been announced?
