Mr. Hochuli,

If a play begins at 2:03 in the second or fourth quarter, and does not end until 1:57, is that play reviewable by the officials? Or must it be challenged by the coaches? I've read the section of the NFL Rulebook, but was wondering about a specific example.

Your response is appreciated,

Bill

That would have to be challenged by the coach because the play occurred before the announcement of the two minute warning by the referee.

Can the coach use the two-minute-warning timeout to see if the play is worth challenging, and then throw the flag before the next snap?

Absolutely the coach could look at the replay. It's not a situation that happens frequently, but you do get the two minute stoppage break to get a good look to determine if a play should be challenged.
