I'm a lifetime San Diego Charger fan. And my anger at what happened last weekend is just now, on Friday, escaping me.

But I'm not mad at Ed. Ed is one of the best officials I've seen, up there with Red Cashion and Jerry Markbreit. Ed immediately realized he made a bad call, and said so; how many baseball umpires do you ever hear do that?

No, Ed and the San Diego Chargers got victimized by a rule that wouldn't allow the referee to reverse his call. Ideally, the rule should have allowed San Diego to keep the ball at the spot of the fumble, with no advancement. Roger Goodell seemed to hint at looking at a change in the rule for next season - not that any of this helps the now 0-2 Chargers.

Ed, you made a bad call. But you know that, and this is why so many fans, even Chargers fans, have been able to forgive the mistake, and why the league respects you (even if Norv Turner is still furious, but it's his fault the Chargers weren't already up 45-31 by that point). We all have to move on. Just don't let it happen again - at least not to San Diego!
